A 25-year-old man identified as Nelly Cornell of Florissant, Missouri, lost his life early Sunday morning after a police pursuit ended in a deadly crash at a St. Louis intersection. Cornell was riding as a passenger in another vehicle when a car allegedly fleeing law enforcement slammed into it, throwing him from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m. on November 1, 2026, at the intersection of Natural Bridge Road and Springdale Avenue. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle involved in the pursuit was traveling at high speed when its driver failed to stop and struck the rear of a southbound vehicle.

Cornell was among four people inside the second vehicle. The impact was severe enough to eject him from the car. Emergency personnel arrived at the scene, but there was nothing they could do to save his life. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:25 a.m.
Three other people traveling in the same vehicle suffered serious injuries. They included the 24-year-old driver and two passengers, aged 24 and 22. All three were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crash also left two people inside the fleeing vehicle injured. The 30-year-old driver suffered minor injuries, while his 29-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries. The passenger was also taken into custody and transported to a hospital.
Authorities identified the fleeing driver as 30-year-old Jahlil Ali Campbell-Williams. Investigators said the pursuit began shortly before 1 a.m. in O’Fallon, Missouri, after officers attempted to stop a vehicle suspected of involvement in a felony violation near Drennan Parkway and Interstate 70.
O’Fallon police followed the vehicle onto eastbound Interstate 70 but ended their pursuit near Mid-Rivers Mall. A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper later spotted the vehicle traveling at high speed near Cave Springs Road. When the driver refused to stop, the trooper began another pursuit.
The fleeing vehicle eventually exited Interstate 70 at Natural Bridge Road around 1:08 a.m. The collision followed roughly one minute later at Springdale Avenue. What began as an attempt to evade law enforcement ended with one person dead and five others injured.
Campbell-Williams was arrested and formally charged on November 1. The charges include aggravated fleeing resulting in death, four counts of aggravated fleeing causing physical injury, first-degree involuntary manslaughter and second-degree assault. He remains held at the St. Louis County Jail as the investigation continues.
For Cornell’s family and friends, the circumstances surrounding his death make an already painful loss even harder to accept. He was 25 years old, and his life ended in a crash that authorities say happened during a police pursuit. His loved ones are now left to deal with a loss that cannot be undone.
