A Halloween night drive ended in tragedy for 20-year-old Sydney O’Quinn of Abbeville, South Carolina, after the SUV she was driving left the road and crashed into a tree in Abbeville County. O’Quinn died at the scene, while a passenger riding with her was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to a hospital.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 11:26 p.m. Saturday, October 31, along South Carolina Highway 201. It was late on Halloween night when the Toyota 4Runner O’Quinn was driving southbound suddenly left the left side of the roadway.
The SUV then struck a tree. The impact proved fatal for O’Quinn, who was just 20 years old.
Emergency responders arrived following the collision and found that the crash had also left a passenger injured. The passenger was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.
Authorities have not released the passenger’s name or provided an update on their condition. It remains unclear how serious the passenger’s injuries were or whether the individual is still receiving treatment.
News of O’Quinn’s death was also reflected in an obituary published by Harris Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Abbeville. The funeral home’s notice confirmed that she was 20 years old.
Her death has brought attention to a crash that took the life of a young woman and left another person needing emergency medical care. For those close to O’Quinn, the loss came at a time when a young life was still unfolding.
The Abbeville County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. Investigators have not yet explained what caused the Toyota 4Runner to leave the roadway.
The exact location of the crash along Highway 201 has not been made public. The highway runs through Abbeville County, in South Carolina’s Upstate region, west of Greenwood and south of Greenville.
