A group of people reportedly drove past a convenience store in Scotlandville and opened fire on 19-year-old Carlos Brumfield, killing him at the scene. The shooting happened Monday afternoon, November 2, in an attack that is now under investigation by Baton Rouge police.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office identified Brumfield as the victim. He was shot outside a convenience store in the 1300 block of Rosenwald Road, with the incident reported shortly before 5 p.m.

According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the shooting involved people traveling in a vehicle who drove past the store and began firing at Brumfield. The gunfire left the teenager fatally wounded.

Brumfield did not survive. He died at the scene, bringing a tragic end to the life of a young man who was just 19 years old.

Authorities have not explained what may have led to the attack. They have also not released information about the relationship, if any, between Brumfield and the people who allegedly opened fire. No arrests have been announced in the reports available so far.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting have left important questions unanswered. Detectives still need to establish why Brumfield was targeted, who was inside the vehicle, and what happened before the gunfire erupted outside the store.

For Brumfield’s loved ones, however, the investigation is only one part of a much bigger loss. They are now left to grieve a young life that ended without warning. At 19, he had many years ahead of him, but those years will never come.

The shooting has also added another painful case to the concerns surrounding gun violence in the Scotlandville area. A convenience store that would ordinarily serve people going about their daily routines became the scene of a deadly attack.

The Baton Rouge Police Department continues to investigate. Anyone who knows something about the shooting or may have information that could help identify those involved is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.

For now, the central question remains unanswered: Who was responsible for the shooting that killed Carlos Brumfield, and what led to the deadly attack? Investigators are working to find those answers as his family mourns his death.
