Travis Long, a 39-year-old man from Conway, South Carolina, died after the car he was driving crashed along Cates Bay Highway in Horry County early Sunday morning. The crash happened around 1:59 a.m. on November 1, near Johnson Street, bringing an abrupt end to his life.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said Long was driving a 2018 Kia Optima southbound when the vehicle was involved in an attempt to evade law enforcement. The car eventually left the roadway, setting off a chain of collisions that ended with the vehicle crashing into a fence.

According to authorities, the Kia first struck a ditch before hitting a brick sign. It then continued into several trees before finally hitting a fence. The impact left the vehicle badly damaged, and Long, who was the only person inside, did not survive.
His death was confirmed Tuesday by Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. The confirmation identified Long as the Conway man who lost his life in the early Sunday morning crash.
For his family and those who knew him, the news marks a painful loss. At 39, Long still had years ahead of him, and his death has added another name to the growing list of lives lost in serious roadway crashes.
Authorities have not released additional details about what happened before the vehicle left the road. The circumstances surrounding the attempt to evade law enforcement and the events leading up to the collision remain part of the investigation.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. Officials have not announced any further findings about the incident.
Long’s death leaves behind a personal loss that goes beyond the details contained in a police report. While authorities work to establish exactly what happened that morning, his family and loved ones must now face life without him.
