A 29-year-old man was shot and killed in the middle of a street in Allentown, Pennsylvania, after a disagreement over a car bumper reportedly stolen two days earlier turned into a physical fight. Jose Rivera died Monday evening, November 2, 2026, following the confrontation in the 700 block of North Ninth Street near Tilghman Street. Three brothers have since been arrested in connection with his death.
According to investigators, the trouble began when a woman driving south along North Ninth Street spotted what she believed was the front bumper stolen from her vehicle two days earlier. She recognized the part by its markings and noticed it attached to a black Acura parked along the street. She then contacted 28-year-old Julian Nathaniel Espada through FaceTime and told him she had found it.

Espada later arrived and began removing the bumper from the Acura. However, Rivera soon came out of his residence and reportedly claimed the bumper belonged to him. He took the part from Espada, setting off a confrontation that quickly got out of hand.
Two of Espada’s brothers, 29-year-old Julius Jose Cortijo and 21-year-old Amiliano Escobar-Adorno, subsequently arrived at the scene. Investigators allege that Espada and Cortijo became involved in a physical fight with Rivera. During the altercation, Escobar-Adorno allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot Rivera in the chest.
The shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. Police received several emergency calls and rushed to the scene, where officers found Rivera suffering from a gunshot wound. Allentown EMS transported him to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, but he could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m.
Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio later determined that Rivera died from a gunshot wound to the torso and classified his death as a homicide. Surveillance cameras reportedly captured the confrontation, and investigators say all three brothers left the scene after the shooting.
Authorities subsequently arrested the three men. Escobar-Adorno faces criminal homicide, aggravated assault and conspiracy charges. Espada faces aggravated assault and conspiracy charges, while Cortijo faces conspiracy-related charges. All three men are being held at Lehigh County Jail. Escobar-Adorno is being held without bail, while Espada’s bail was set at $500,000 cash and Cortijo’s at $250,000 cash.
Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for November 10, 2026. The investigation involved Allentown police detectives and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Homicide Task Force. Although three brothers have been charged, the allegations against them remain subject to court proceedings, and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
For Rivera’s loved ones, the circumstances surrounding his death are now part of a loss they must face. A disagreement over a vehicle part ended with a 29-year-old man losing his life, leaving his family and friends to deal with the consequences of a shooting that unfolded in a matter of minutes.
