A 2023 Jeep Wrangler crossed a raised median on KY-80 and struck an oncoming Ford Mustang, killing its 36-year-old driver in Perry County, Kentucky. The driver of the Mustang, identified as David Baisden of Hazard, died at the scene of the Tuesday evening collision.

Kentucky State Police said the crash happened around 5:34 p.m. on November 3, 2026, in the Bulan community. Troopers from Post 13 in Hazard received the report and responded alongside medical personnel.

The preliminary investigation found that the Jeep was traveling eastbound when it crossed the raised median and entered the westbound lane. It then collided with a 2015 Ford Mustang traveling in that direction. Baisden was operating the Mustang when the vehicles collided.

The crash left Baisden dead at the scene. The Perry County Coroner’s Office pronounced him deceased after emergency personnel arrived. He was 36.

The person driving the Jeep survived the collision but sustained injuries. Perry County EMS transported the driver to Hazard A.R.H. for treatment. Authorities said the injuries were not life-threatening.

One detail confirmed by investigators was that seat belts were in use during the collision. Despite this, the crash claimed Baisden’s life and left the other driver needing medical attention.

Investigators have scheduled an autopsy for Baisden, while toxicology results are still pending. These examinations form part of the ongoing effort to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Trooper Charles Moore is leading the investigation and reconstructing the crash. State police have not yet announced why the Jeep crossed the raised median or what caused the driver to enter the opposing lane.

For residents of Hazard and the surrounding Perry County communities, the crash brings news of the sudden death of a local man. Baisden’s death also leaves important questions about the events leading up to the collision, questions investigators are still working to answer.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further findings may provide a clearer account of what happened along KY-80 that evening.
