Jabriel Henderson, a 22-year-old Rochester man known to friends as Ak A RtYb, was shot and killed during a robbery on Ellison Street in Rochester, New York. Nearly 21 months after his death, police have arrested a 26-year-old man accused of carrying out the deadly robbery.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on January 30, 2025, at 67 Ellison Street. According to Rochester police, Henderson was targeted during a robbery involving drugs. Investigators say he was robbed of two cellphones and two duffel bags containing a large quantity of marijuana, pills and mushrooms.
Police officers rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire and a vehicle crashing into a pole. When they arrived, they found Henderson in the driver’s seat of the crashed vehicle. He had suffered at least one gunshot wound to his upper body.
Henderson was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where medical staff tried to save his life. He later died from his injuries. He was just 22 years old.
For months, the circumstances surrounding his death remained under investigation. Detectives with the Rochester Police Department’s Major Crimes Homicide Unit continued working to identify the person responsible. Their investigation eventually led them to 26-year-old Naisir Lee Ross.
Ross was arrested Wednesday evening, November 4, 2026, in Brockport, New York. Rochester police said its Tactical Unit and SWAT team carried out the arrest with assistance from the Village of Brockport Police Department.
Investigators allege that Ross shot Henderson during the robbery and took the two cellphones and bags containing the drugs. He now faces charges of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree robbery and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Ross was arraigned in Rochester City Court on Thursday morning, November 5. According to court records, he was remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail.
Henderson’s death has now led to a murder arrest after a lengthy investigation. While the arrest marks a major development in the case, the loss of a 22-year-old man remains at its center. Henderson’s life ended on an ordinary January evening, leaving behind a story that his family and loved ones must continue to carry.
