Eight-year-old James Lynch and his 6-year-old sister, Caroline, were killed in a devastating incident involving their father, Patrick Lynch, 42, at a parking garage in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, November 3. The children died after their father allegedly threw them from the parking garage before jumping to his death. All three were found with fatal injuries, leaving their mother, Anna DeMase Lynch, facing the loss of her entire immediate family in a single afternoon.
Police responded to the area near the parking garage behind the Mt. Lebanon Municipal Building after receiving reports of three people lying unresponsive. Emergency crews arrived and immediately began trying to save their lives. Despite their efforts, all three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said preliminary findings pointed to a murder-suicide. Police identified the victims as Patrick Lynch, James Lynch and Caroline Lynch. Authorities said the injuries were consistent with an apparent fall from the garage, and investigators made clear that they were not treating the incident as an accident.
The tragedy has left Anna DeMase Lynch grieving her two young children and her husband. In a statement shared after their deaths, she described James and Caroline as best friends who shared a close bond. She also addressed her husband’s actions, saying he had made the irreversible decision to take the lives of their children and himself.
Anna disclosed that Patrick had lost his job in August and had become depressed afterward. She said she had encouraged him to seek professional help, and he had agreed to see a therapist. His appointment had been scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, just one day after the tragedy.
A fundraiser has since been organized to help Anna through the difficult days ahead. The GoFundMe campaign was started by a family friend, Gina Pugliano, to support the grieving mother following the deaths. Donations are intended to help with the financial burden associated with the tragedy, including funeral and memorial expenses.
The deaths have also shaken the Mt. Lebanon community, where the family was known. James and Caroline’s schools were among those affected, with Markham and Washington elementary schools closed on Wednesday. Support services were also made available to help students, teachers and families cope with the loss.
Police Chief Jason Haberman acknowledged the emotional impact of the incident, saying the tragedy would leave significant trauma throughout the community. He also expressed condolences to the victims’ family and friends and encouraged anyone struggling with the news to seek support.
For Anna, the days ahead will be marked by the loss of two children she described as inseparable and a husband whose actions ended three lives. As friends, relatives and neighbors rally around her, the fundraiser offers one way for people to help with the difficult arrangements that follow such a devastating loss.
